PICK OF THE DAY
THE SERPENT
9PM, BBC1 ★★★★
This highly stylish eight-part drama tells the true story of a serial killer who preyed on tourists along Asia’s Hippie Trail. In the 1970s, French con man Charles Sobhraj (Tahar Rahim) lures his victims into an intricate web of deceit before robbing and killing them. Aided by his devoted girlfriend, Marie-andree Leclerc (a great performance by Jenna Coleman, right), Sobhraj evades capture – until Dutch diplomat Herman Knippenberg (Billy Howle) is unwittingly embroiled in Sobhraj’s crimes, and the real cat-and-mouse game begins…

It’s the moment we’ve all been dreading: the Daleks have returned, with a new look and extermination in mind. But with the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) being held in an alien prison, it’s left to Graham, Ryan and
Yaz to put up a fight for Earth – with the help of Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman)!
