1966
The year he was born – on November 8 – in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland. In 1976, his family settled in Stratford-upon-avon, England.
1985
The year Gordon gave up his dreams of playing football professionally. He’d had a trial with Rangers, the side he’d supported as a boy, but injuries put paid to his career on the pitch.

The age at which he went to Paris and found a job with Guy Savoy, whom he credits as his mentor. After his time in France, he worked as a personal chef on a yacht, travelling from Bermuda to Italy.
1993
The year he got his first head chef role, at the three-michelin-starred La Tante Claire in London’s Chelsea.
1998
The year he recorded his first TV show, the fly-on-the-wall series Boiling Point, which followed him as he opened his flagship Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea.

The number of years he has been married to his wife, Tana. Together, they run a charitable organisation, and have five children. Daughter Matilda is a budding chef who has her own cooking show, Matilda And The Ramsay Bunch (on BBC iplayer).
