A TERRIBLE CRIME IN A BEAUTIFUL PLACE
The story is not the only reason Luke Evans took the part: born in Pontypool, he moved to London in his late teens but still has close emotional ties to his homeland and has filmed adverts for the Welsh Tourist Board.
In recent years his work has taken him elsewhere, however, and he admits it was the fulfilment of a longstanding dream to work on a production with a largely Welsh cast. ‘I used my own accent for the first time in years and it was lovely to be surrounded by full, authentic, rich Welsh voices, as well as wonderful characters,’ he says.
It also allowed him to spend time with his family amid the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline. ‘I took my mum and dad down there – I couldn’t get rid of them, actually, because I’d been given such a nice house to stay in on the edge of a cliff,’ he says. ‘It’s a magnificent place to be at any time of the year, and the juxtaposition of this terrible thing happening in such a beautiful area just adds to the mystery of the whole place.’
