When you drink this extraordinary sparkling British red you give your olfactory system a gloriously aromatic deep clean. Super-dry and with a rosehip and raspberry scent, it’s unlike any other wine in the country.

With ultra-juicy fruit and a wonderfully weightless palate, this is an amazing wine. There is enough freshness in this fabulous merlot for it to be chilled a touch and partnered with spicy Indian dishes.

£10.99, reduced to £8.79 until 26 January, Waitrose Bold and blackberrystuffed, this perfect winter wine weaves in liquorice and black olive notes with pizzazz. We all enjoy bargains at this time of year – and it’s hard to find a better one.
