My Haven

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 45, in the living room of her home in Surrey

1 KEY CHANGE

I was inspired to play the piano again in 2019 after hearing a beautiful composition by British composer Alexis Ffrench. I’d played as a child but it had been 30 years since I’d sat at a piano. I set myself the target of being able to play the piece with Alexis – that’s his book of sheet music on the sofa – live on TV. I succeeded, on GMB, but it was nerve-racking. Having said that, the piano is a wonderful way to escape the stresses of everyday life.

2 ALL ABOARD!

This photo of my businessman husband Mark and me in front of the bus we hired for our 2008 wedding in Chichester Cathedral brings back happy memories. We’d met through mutual friends at an earlier wedding. On our big day my late vicar dad gave me away, my bishop uncle married us and we were toasted with these lovely Champagne glasses.

3 WILD TIMES

In 2014 I went on an amazing safari in Zimbabwe with Mark and his parents. We got up close to lions, rhinos and cheetahs, and this stunning cheetah is a reminder of that holiday of a lifetime. But we had a scary moment when we were stampeded by a bull elephant. I was in the back of the jeep and was petrified, but the driver put his foot down hard and just kept driving over all the bumpy tracks until we were out of harm’s way. It was a close call though.

4 MY ENGLISH ROSE

Here’s my daughter Ella Rose, now five, on her christening day, sitting close to the spot by Chichester Cathedral where my father Frank is buried. Sadly Dad died aged 78 a month before she was born, so he never got to see her, but I know he was there in spirit at her christening. She and our rescue Labradorterrier cross Bailey are the best of friends – Bailey is very protective of her, and Ella Rose loves practising her dog training.

5 BACK IN YOUR BOX, PIERS!

I’ve been a presenter on Good Morning Britain since 2014, and I love it despite having to go to bed at 8pm the night before and set my alarm for 2.45am when I’m presenting – thankfully I’ve never overslept yet. But sitting next to Piers Morgan on the GMB sofa, it can be hard to get a word in edgeways. So I was very grateful when my colleague Susanna Reid gave me this light box with the message, ‘Shh! I’m Reading the News’. It sits on the GMB desk to remind Piers to ‘zip it’ when I’m reading out the headlines.

6 STRICTLY? I HAD A BALL

As a child I loved dancing, so I jumped at the chance of being on Strictly in 2017 – and this glitter ball cocktail glass is a lovely memento. Fellow contestant Debbie Mcgee gave one to each of us with a note saying we were all winners. I loved being a part of Strictly’s sequinned craziness, but now I restrict myself to dancing round the kitchen with Ella Rose. To those who don’t make it to the final stages of the show, I’d just say, I feel your pain – but count yourselves lucky you don’t have Piers Morgan constantly reminding you of your premature exit in week four.
