BUMBLEBEE (2018) PG

4.30PM, CH4 ★★★★ Somehow, some heart and soul found a way into Michael Bay’s clanking Transformers franchise with this rather funny, nostalgic and entertaining spin-off. Bumblebee is the adorable VW Beetle making friends in 1987 with Hailee Steinfeld’s plucky teenage mechanic.

THE HOMESMAN (2014) 15

12.30AM, BBC2 ★★★★ Directed by Tommy Lee Jones, who also co-stars, this western, set in the 1850s, follows Hilary Swank’s brave frontierswoman as she transports three troubled women to safety. Jones’s grumpy criminal joins her in a bleak but incredibly strongly told Old West tale.
