A GUIDE TO: Saturday Morning Pictures

From today, Talking Pictures TV is re-creating those 1950s and 1960s trips to the cinema to watch cartoons, films and weekly serial adventures on a Saturday morning. Here’s our guide…

Where and when can I see it?

Talking Pictures TV is on Freeview (81), Freesat (306), Sky (328) and Virgin (445). Saturday Morning Pictures will be showing every Saturday from 9am to 12 noon.

What will be showing?

take your seats for a cartoon At 9am, Cinderella story from 1953, in which Popeye is a-sweepin’ and a-cleanin’ and a-dreamin’ of the ball. 12-part At 1944 9.10am, adventure it’s the first Zorro’s of the Black Whip, before George Best pops up in the 1965 Children’s Film Foundation feature

Cup Fever (9.40am). The first of the 1949 series in the at curtain-raiser 10.55am, The Lone followed Ranger to 1940’s by rides 12chapter Flash Gordon Conquers The Universe (11.25am, centre), before we’re back to cartoons with a stunningly animated 1941 Superman series at 11.50am. In between it all, listen out for the sounds of the noisy audience and angry cinema managers – Talking Pictures is trying to re-create the unruly atmosphere of these mornings, which is a nice touch.

And in the future?

Champion The Wonder Horse is one of the shows in the pipeline, depending on how popular this proves.
