Currently hosting Long Lost Family (9pm, ITV), Nicky, 59, has been presenting radio and TV for more than three decades. Here are some things you might not know about him…

● After reading history at Aberdeen University, Nicky made his name in radio, writing jingles and then presenting various shows on Capital Radio before moving to Radio 1 in 1987. He started hosting TV shows such as Wheel Of Fortune, Top Of The Pops and, in 2001, Watchdog. Along with Long Lost Family, he currently presents The Big Questions on BBC1 (Sunday, 10.30am) and, since 2003, the Radio 5 Live breakfast show (Monday-friday, 6am).

● Having been adopted as a baby, Nicky Long Lost is uniquely Family. qualified ‘It’s rare to in TV host to feel you’re on a show that’s helping others,’ he says. ‘Because I’m adopted, too, I can say to people, “I know what it’s like to be scared, and it’s OK.”’ His adoptive mother, Sheila, died in December, aged 96.

● Tina He has since been 1997, married and the to couple second have wife four daughters. The definition of a family man, Nicky has one ambition: ‘The only thing that matters to me is to be a good husband and a good father.’ He splits his time between homes in Salford, south London and the Highland community of Glenelg. ● He is a passionate supporter of animal rights, and is a patron of the Born Free Foundation wildlife charity, headed by Will Travers and his mother, Virginia Mckenna.
