A Few Good Men (Friday) Gene Hackman turned down the role of Colonel Nathan Jessep because he was busy playing Sheriff Little Bill Daggett in Clint Eastwood’s masterpiece, Unforgiven. It proved to be a sound decision – Hackman beat Jack Nicholson (right) in the Best Supporting Actor category at the 1993 Oscars.
