PICK OF THE DAY

BLOODLANDS

9PM, BBC1 ★★★★

James Nesbitt (right) stars in this brooding new crime drama, set in Northern Ireland. He’s DCI Tom Brannick, who, upon investigating the kidnapping of a man once tied to the IRA, reopens a decades-old and deeply personal case. In

1998, as the peace agreement looked set to end years of sectarian violence, an assassin known as Goliath was picking off victims on both sides. Many, including Tom, believed Goliath was a serving police officer and, as Tom digs deeper, it becomes clear that someone wants to keep the truth dead and buried.

ANTIQUES ROADSHOW

8PM, BBC1 ★★★★

This week, the Roadshow sets up camp at Windermere Jetty Museum in the Lake District. As Fiona Bruce shares stories of speed record attempts on the lakes, there’s a nautical theme to some of the finds, including trophies awarded to a pioneering female sailor and a wooden dinghy from the film Swallows And Amazons.

CHRIS PACKHAM’S ANIMAL EINSTEINS

8PM, BBC2 ★★★★

For his new, six-part series, Chris will be demonstrating the surprising breadth of intelligence found in the animal kingdom, from crows and chimps to dogs and dolphins. Tonight, we learn the answers to some burning questions: Can bees play football? And can cuttlefish plan ahead?

FINDING ALICE

9PM, ITV ★★★★

At the start of this concluding episode, Alice still has a lot to overcome, helpfully outlined by Nicola in a laminated to-do list. But lists won’t make life easier for Alice – or for her parents (the wonderful Joanna Lumley and Nigel Havers) or her daughter, Charlotte. There’s no tidy ending, or word yet on series two. SA
