Peter Cushing felt his acting career had been a bit of a failure. Meanwhile, his friend Christopher Lee was getting a bit fed up with getting cast as a spear carrier or chariot driver. They both started working with the British film company Hammer, as well as with rival studio Amicus. Through the 1960s and 1970s, the tall, gangling thespians wore the fangs and swirled the capes as they sent chills down the spines of cinema audiences. Here, film buff Matthew Sweet salutes the talents of these two bloodcurdlers.

Music scholars come up with theories about the missing movement, while various composers have cobbled together finales for the Symphony, based on Schubert’s notebooks. John Suchet features the work tonight, and as you’ll hear, it sounds quite perfect and complete just as it is.
