DID YOU KNOW? Kate Humble
As Kate continues her series of beautiful walks around Coastal Britain (8pm, Ch5), we take a look at some things that have shaped her life and career so far…
● Born in Wimbledon in 1968, Kate was always happiest running around outside with her brother, Charlie, and climbing trees. After school, she travelled through Africa, picking up odd jobs on the way, including driving safari trucks and working on a crocodile farm.
● After starting her career in television as a researcher, Kate was soon presenting shows including Top Gear and
Tomorrow’s World, eventually finding her niche in wildlife programmes such as Animal Park, Springwatch and
Autumnwatch. She has since explored people and cultures farther afield, with series including
The Spice Trail and Extreme Wives.
● In 1992, Kate married TV producer Ludo Graham; in 2010, the nature-loving couple bought a 117-acre farm in the Wye valley in Monmouthshire, where they have been running courses on everything from cookery to animal husbandry.
● Now 52, she and Ludo share the farm with a variety of animals, plus three very happy dogs – Bella, Badger and Welsh sheepdog Teg, star of the 2016 documentary My Sheepdog Andme . The farm has been an idyllic location to spend lockdown: ‘I have beautiful green space all around me, and I have the farm and my dogs to keep me busy.’
