PICK OF THE DAY
ZARA AND ANNE: LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER
9PM, CH5 ★★★★
On May 15, 1981, Princess Anne gave birth to the Queen’s second grandchild; the name she chose – Zara – was not traditionally royal, setting the tone for the life she wanted for her daughter. This film looks at Zara’s relationship with Anne, and compares the lives of the two women (right). Both are accomplished equestrians and both have an HGV license – but only Zara got her tongue pierced. Without the duties of a royal title, the former ‘wild child’, now a mother herself, has had more freedom to pursue her dreams.
AND & DEC’S SATURDAY NIGHT TAKEAWAY
7PM, ITV ★★★★
This week sees the return of the pandas, attempting a daring escape from Hamleys toy store. The Takeaway Rainbow is also on the move, seeking out another lucky player to ‘win the ads’. All this and other madness is overseen by Gordon Ramsay in the star guest announcer booth.
CASUALTY
8.20PM, BBC1 ★★★ Paramedic Jan has a hard and heartbreaking day when her wayward son, Ross, is brought to the ED from prison, and she also tries to deal with a disruptive patient with a complex history. Worried and distracted, Jan might be about to make a terrible decision. Meanwhile, Lev can’t resist giving Dylan a few dirty looks.
BILLY CONNOLLY: MADE IN SCOTLAND
9PM, BBC2 ★★★★ Another chance to see this two-part documentary, first shown in 2018, which follows the Big Yin back to his homeland. Remembering his early years in Glasgow, Billy tells it as it was. It’s the story of how a welder became a wild and influential force of nature. SIMONE ANDREWS
