GOOD MORNING SUNDAY 6AM, RADIO 2 ★★★

Bonnie Tyler believes that better days lie ahead, and has brought out a new album with the optimistic title The Best Is

Yet To Come. Bonnie joins the Reverend Kate Bottley and Jason Mohammad to talk about the album, and how her Christian faith gives her hope for the future.

THE BALLAD OF STOOKY BILL 4.30PM, RADIO 4 ★★★

The first face to appear on television was a ventriloquist’s dummy called Stooky Bill. Human faces weren’t distinct enough to show up on screen, but the exaggerated features of the dummy were ideal. The studio lights would have burnt human faces and even Stooky, over a period of time, began to frazzle in the heat. Alistair Mcgowan takes on the voice of Stooky for this programme about the sinister-looking dummy that John Logie Baird chose for his first experimental TV test.

SUNDAY NIGHT IS MUSIC NIGHT ★★★★

7PM, RADIO 2

Ella Fitzgerald had perfect pitch, and always knew where the beat was. This innate ability meant that she could improvise and scat, then land back – in tune and in time – when the mood took her. This tribute concert, recorded at the Hackney Empire, has the impeccable BBC Concert Orchestra and top-class vocalists performing some of the many hits of the orphan girl who became an international star.

DR RANGAN CHATTERJEE 10PM, RADIO 2 ★★★

Rangan Chatterjee wants us all to feel a lot better. The author and doctor has no illusions about how hard life can be, particularly at the moment, so he’s put together a programme of inspirational conversations and advice, with a soundtrack designed to bring you some tranquillity. SJ
