With a voice that could both seduce and empower, ‘Lady Day’ (right) is one of the most recognisable and influential jazz singers. Her short life – she died in 1959, aged just

44 – was marked by both professional triumphs and personal torments. This new documentary features unseen material gathered by journalist Linda Lipnack Kuehl in the 1960s and 1970s for a biography she intended to write. Including interviews with Tony Bennett and Count Basie, this is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest of the greats.
