- ROBIN WIGGS

THE REPAIR SHOP

4.30PM, BBC1 ★★★★

This cosy show returns for a new series that continues every weekday. Its delights are threefold – the insights you get into people’s lives through their tales of damaged family heirlooms, the care taken by Jay Blades (right, centre) and the team in restoring these treasures, and the delight their work creates when handed back. Today, the heirlooms include a model ship of matchsticks made by Lesley’s dad, who died when she was seven; the chair owned by Tara’s grandmother, who died in the year Tara was born; and a statue of the HMV dog.

FAWLTY TOWERS

8.30PM, BBC1 ★★★★★ This first-ever episode sets out hotel owner Basil’s problem perfectly: he thinks he’s better than he is. Basil (John Cleese) listens to classical music, is desperate for a better class of guest, and claims to speak ‘classical’ Spanish, saying that this is why Manuel can’t understand him – but he’s also fundamentally incompetent.

MASTERCHEF

9PM, BBC1 ★★★★

The third week of heats gets under way and five more cooks enter the kitchen, their eyes alight with the hope of securing an apron. Letitia has seen ‘every single episode’ of Masterchef, and is particularly excited to make her mark in the signature dish challenge. Gregg Wallace, meanwhile, is hoping someone will cook a pudding.

UNFORGOTTEN

9PM, ITV ★★★★

It’s in the interview scenes that the drama really lives in crime shows, and now, the suspects are essentially interviewing each other – meeting up in secret, trying to see if they can trust each other and get their stories straight. Meanwhile, Cassie and Sunny have a frank chat with the four’s ex-training officer.
