STRICTLY AMY: CROHN’S AND ME
7PM, BBC1 ★★★★ Previously shown on
BBC Wales, this poignant documentary reveals the health struggles of chirpy Strictly dancer Amy Dowden (right), who has suffered with Crohn’s disease since her childhood. Crohn’s causes inflammation and ulcers that make it hard – and painful – for Amy to digest food, and the pain can be so bad that it makes her pass out. She had worried that being open about this might harm her career, but, for this film, after being hospitalised with a flare-up after a show, she sets out to hear the experiences of others.
FANTASTIC FOXES: THEIR SECRET WORLD 7PM, CH5 ★★★★
For this fascinating two-parter, Steve Backshall shows us the sweet and interesting side of an often vilified animal. Ample footage of fox cubs goes a long way to convince us how sweet they can be, while the sheer level of detail provided about their lives makes these foxes interesting from the start.
THE BOLEYNS: A SCANDALOUS FAMILY 9PM, BBC2 ★★★★
This impressive series ends with the downfall of the Boleyns. Along the way, it touches on the bond between Anne and her brother, George, whose rise at court came in the wake of his sister – ultimately, Henry accused them of incest, and that partly led to their execution.
IAN HISLOP’S TRAINS THAT CHANGED THE WORLD 9PM, CH5 ★★★
Trains are critical to the movement of goods around our country – 66 of them pass through Felixstowe, our busiest rail freight port, every single day. Tonight, Ian Hislop’s series focuses on the development of a complex network that is often underappreciated.
