SARAH SNOOK
SUCCESSION Monday, 9pm, Sky Atlantic
1I play Shiv, the only daughter of tycoon Logan Roy. The Roy family are super rich and their clothes match this wealth. I’m a more practical dresser than Shiv but I have asked for a few choice items. Costume designer Michelle Matland buys big, then tailors down to individual needs, so the clothes fit me perfectly.
2 The person most likely to laugh during a scene is Matthew Macfadyen, who plays Shiv’s husband Tom. You see the sides of his mouth rise and you know we’ll have to go again. We have continuity people to ensure that me, an Australian, and Matthew, a Brit, don’t slip into Britishisms or Australianisms. The patter must sound authentically American, as well as the accent.

If we’re filming on the Roys’s superyacht I always take my swimming costume. I jump off the boat that takes us to the yacht and swim back to the beach. It’s a great way to end a day’s filming!

I’ve never filmed a show where there’s so much uncertainty about how it is going to look when finished. There are three cameras on us at all times in ensemble scenes, so you can never be sure precisely what is going to be used. The cameras aren’t at all intrusive or invasive, they just feel like another character in the show.

I hope people don’t think I’m like Shiv – she’s prickly and I wouldn’t be friends with her. I’m delighted that my fellow cast members say that I am the least like the character I play. I did a test on the internet, ‘Which character in Succession are you most like?’ and apparently I am most like Greg, Logan’s great-nephew!
