GUY’S GARAGE 9PM, CH4

★★★★

Guy Martin loves to tinker in his garage and, for this new series, he’s transforming familiar European cars into top-of-theline racers. He starts with that very archetype of safety and dependability – the 240 Volvo estate, which Guy (right) intends to race in competitive rallycross in Sweden. His partner-in-tinkering is Cameron ‘Cammy’ Whitworth, but their project is far from smooth sailing, involving two cars, three engines, heaven knows how many gearboxes and even some explosions. Let’s hope it doesn’t put him off tinkering for life.

BIDDING WARS 5.30PM, CH4

★★★

‘Push in the pallet’ is the catchphrase for this new contest, in which teams of resellers assemble in a warehouse and bid for sealed pallets of returned goods with themes such as ‘men’s fashion’ and ‘1970s kitsch’. The bidders estimate their profits from selling the goods, and you learn how they actually did later.

THE PRINCES AND THE PRESS

9PM, BBC2 ★★★★ Amol Rajan presents a new two-parter that sifts through 80 hours of interviews to provide insight into the media’s handling of the Sussexes and Cambridges. Part one includes a look back at phone-hacking in the 1990s and 2000s, but mainly goes from the Diamond Jubilee in 2012 up to the Sussexes’ wedding in 2018.

ALONG FOR THE RIDE 10PM, CH4

★★★

Comedian David O’doherty promised himself a big cycling adventure after lockdown ended. This new series is the result, and his first companion is Londoner Richard Ayoade, who joins O’doherty for an odyssey that ends at the uniquely eerie Dungeness. What will Ayoade make of the countryside? ROBIN WIGGS
