Will Manpreet get her man?

Emmerdale’s Manpreet has a fresh chance with Charles – but she’s hiding a secret that could ruin it all...

Charles and Manpreet look set to rekindle their romance in Emmerdale this week after she comforts her grieving ex and moves in for a kiss. Charles resists but opens his heart and confesses he’s never stopped loving the woman who jilted him at the altar and disappeared from his life.

‘There’s a lot of affection between them,’ says Rebecca Sarker, who plays Manpreet. ‘They finish each other’s sentences like old lovers do, and it all appears positive.’

Manpreet’s sister Meena will be thrilled. She’s been plotting to reunite them – by murdering Charles’s girlfriend Andrea and playing wicked emotional games with his son Ethan. But before he’ll commit to her, Charles insists on there being no secrets between them, which leaves Manpreet in turmoil about whether to reveal everything she knows.

‘When Charles suggests they could have a future but with the no-secrets proviso, it blows open a whole new story,’ says Rebecca. ‘If you could put Charles and Manpreet in a room together with no other complications, they would get back together. But where’s the fun in that?!’

Manpreet’s skeleton in the closet is that she knows about Meena’s meddling, that her sister sent Ethan texts pretending to be his estranged mum Esme wanting to see him. When Esme, of course, failed to show up, it was hoped Ethan would turn to Manpreet for support and Charles would be so impressed he’d take her back.

Now, while Meena’s desperate to cover her tracks and is urging Ethan to forget about Esme, Manpreet’s telling him to try again with his mum. ‘Manpreet still feels

maternal towards Ethan, and Charles appreciates Manpreet’s affection,’ says Rebecca.

Charles invites Manpreet for a walk, where they share ‘a lovely moment’. ‘They feel duty bound not to be disrespectful to Andrea’s memory but can’t deny their desire to reconnect and they almost kiss. Charles pulls away from her but then tells Manpreet he loves her and never stopped. Yet that’s when he makes the no-secrets condition.’ Will Manpreet feel the need to tell the

truth to the man she loves? ‘That’s the question,’ teases Rebecca.

She does reveal that the storyline will run through to Christmas. ‘I can’t wait for those episodes to be shown because I think it’ll be a great story,’ says Rebecca, who’s been in Emmerdale for three years. ‘I’m loving being on the show and getting some fantastic storylines. Manpreet is branching out and forming new relationships, and you never know which of them will develop into exciting plots.’
