In the words of Snowdon’s biographer, Anne de Courcy: ‘It was a marriage of two stars… and ended up like a supernova explosion.’ This documentary charts their relationship from secret courtship to divorce. Margaret was judged harshly when her affair with ‘toyboy’ Roddy Llewellyn was outed – the truth about Snowdon, not made public until after his death, is more damning.

Back in the 1990s, Lois & Clark, starring Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain, was a Saturday-night ratings-winner for the BBC. Showing in the same slot, this new US series follows Clark Kent/superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) as they face the challenges of being working

parents to two teenage sons.

This new series is hosted by Dermot O’leary, ex-royal Marine Arthur Williams and historian Lucy BetteridgeDyson. They make an efficient team, acting as our guides to decisive moments in Britain’s biggest battles. This first episode looks at Dunkirk, and two key days of evacuations that held the Germans at bay.

SINATRA: KING OF THE CROONERS 9.40PM, CH5

★★★★

Few stars had lives as dramatic away from the cameras as in front of them. Frank Sinatra did. This film tells the story of the celebrated singer and actor who didn’t settle for rags-to-riches. Catch him in this week’s Classic Film Choice, The Manchurian Candidate, see page 23. SIMONE ANDREWS
