TWO DOORS DOWN 10PM, BBC2

★★★★

It’s as if Eric and Beth (Alex Norton and Arabella Weir, right) are trapped in a very particular type of hell in this returning Scottish sitcom. In nearly every episode, the couple make a meal with a nice, quiet night in mind, which is then steadily ruined by the arrival of their drunken neighbours, and the start of this new series is no exception. Beth is cooking a veggie curry for son Ian and his boyfriend, Gordon – the locals steadily invite themselves over, react with horror at the lack of meat, and pass judgment on Ian and Gordon’s relationship.

FOOD UNWRAPPED’S CHRISTMAS CRACKER 8PM, CH4

★★★

Briony May Williams is in Germany, explaining what makes the perfect stollen – and, if that wasn’t enough, she also has the inside track on a solution to a shortage of pigs in blankets. Meanwhile, Matt Tebbutt has the very scientific job of figuring out how long an open bottle of port will keep.

LIVE: WINTER ON THE FARM 8PM, CH5

★★★ Helen Skelton and Jules Hudson return to Cannon Hall Farm for a nightly, four-part update on events from the South Yorkshire attraction. There are reindeer to feed and excitement right off the bat as farmers Rob and Dave have ventured north to the Arctic in search of new additions to their estate.

FORENSICS: THE REAL CSI 9PM, BBC2

★★★★

There’s a real fly-on-the-wall feeling to this series, which manages to capture both the detective and the forensics work of a West Midlands Police investigation as if the cameras weren’t there. The case begins when two men are found dead in a car in Dudley, and the forensics team move in. ROBIN WIGGS
