The beautiful bluegreen disc, a wonder to behold, was found in 1999 in Germany, but contains gold from Cornwall. It’s all sweeping strings and throbbing passion on John Suchet’s Valentine’s Day special. The show opens with Johann Pachelbel’s Canon In D Major, a current favourite for brides heading down the aisle to the altar. Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, written by the composer as a gift for his wife, is also on the bill, and the show closes with Ralph Vaughan Williams’s sweet and tender Serenade In A Minor. SJ
