THE CASE OF THE BRILLANTE VIRTUOSO 11AM, RADIO 4 ★★★

A Greek-owned vessel sailing under a Liberian flag was attacked, or so it was claimed, by pirates off the coast of Yemen in 2011. Despite its flashy name, the Brillante Virtuoso was a decrepit oil tanker, and the supposed attack was a scam. Shots from AK-47S and rocket grenades were said to

have caused serious damage to the ship, but an investigation showed that the shots came from inside the vessel, and that fires on board had actually caused the damage. In this threepart series, Nick Wallis follows a story of violence, murder and a tangled web of organised crime.

On his own show on this station, Alan Titchmarsh described Phamie Gow as a ‘great British discovery’. Born in Scotland, she has lived in many countries, and is a composer, harpist and pianist. Last year, listeners voted Phamie’s War Song into Classic FM’S Hall Of Fame, and John Suchet includes this unexpectedly tranquil work in his show tonight.

BUNK BED 11PM, RADIO 4

★★★★★ Patrick Marber and Peter Curran lie in their bunk beds, staring into the dark and talking about fear and death. As they mull over these matters, the voice of the silentcomedy king Buster Keaton makes a ghostly visit. Quirky, hypnotic and inexplicably funny. SJ
