PICK OF THE DAY
EXTRAORDINARY ESCAPES WITH SANDI TOKSVIG
9PM, CH4 ★★★★
Sandi’s latest travelling companion is Casualty and Ackley Bridge star Sunetra Sarker (right). Sunetra is more of a homebody, but with what Sandi’s got in store in Norfolk, she will soon be converted to the wonders of the great outdoors. They start with a boat trip on the Broads, and stay at a stylishly modernised mill keeper’s cottage, complete with its own windmill. There are more delightful stopovers and warm and revealing conversation in store before their travels end with sealspotting at Blakeney Point.
DRAGONS’ DEN 8PM, BBC1
★★★
Alcohol is always an interesting proposition in the Den, but the high-strength brew on offer is too rich for one Dragon’s blood. Will an idea for a booking service for dogfriendly businesses have more luck? Other deals on offer include a watch strap made from a cruelty-free ingredient, and an eco-friendly deodorant.
THE APPRENTICE 9PM, BBC1
★★★★
The candidates will want to stay in the fast lane when they arrive at Aston Martin’s Warwickshire HQ. Tasked with organising a swanky corporate away day with a racing theme, they must give their clients an experience to remember, as well as make a profit. Who will cross the finish line, and who will crash and burn?
THE BIG FREEZE: WINTER ’63 9PM, CH5
★★★★ Illustrated by archive footage and first-hand accounts – including from Joanna Lumley and John Craven – this film looks back at the most extreme cold snap in modern British history. Starting on Boxing Day, 1962, snow fell for ten weeks, temperatures plummeted to -22°C, and the Thames and parts of the sea froze over. SA
