The appeal of the Born In The USA singer-songwriter (right) reaches far and wide. Tonight’s movie premiere, Blinded By The Light (10pm, BBC2), is the story of how Springstee­n’s music inspired a British-pakistani teenager growing up in Luton in the 1980s. But first, watch the 1998 documentar­y A Secret History, which goes right back to the start of Springstee­n’s decades-long career, and features a rare and in-depth interview with the man himself describing how it all began – and how it endured.

TONY ROBINSON’S HISTORY OF BRITAIN 7.30PM, CH5

Tony revisits the 1950s, telling stories of ordinary Brits who worked and played during this optimistic yet challengin­g decade. We learn of an Irish woman who worked as a nurse for the NHS, a Manchester ragand-bone man, and a Second World War veteran employed at the Dagenham Ford factory.

In the first of tonight’s double bill, Matthew and Stevie’s volatile relationsh­ip looks set to implode, and Matthew is haunted by past traumatic events when he attends a road accident involving a prisoner transport. In the second episode, Dylan investigat­es the case of a woman who claims not to recognise her daughter.

DUNKIRK: MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 9.30PM, CH5

In part two, JJ Chalmers reveals the chaos and carnage that ensued as the evacuation got under way, and dons full battle dress to get a feel for the hardships the troops on the beaches endured. In Britain, Raksha Dave explores how the Royal Navy and RAF pitched in to help. SIMONE ANDREWS
