OF THE DAY

HOLDING 9PM, ITV

★★★★ Conleth Hill, who played Lord Varys in Game Of Thrones, takes on a very different role in this blackly comic new four-part drama set in a rural community in the west of Ireland. It’s based on the bestselling novel by the chat show host Graham Norton, and stars Hill as the slightly useless police sergeant P.J. Collins (right), who finds himself way out of his depth when a decades-old mystery rises to the surface. The Oscar-winning actress Brenda Fricker and Father Ted’s Pauline Mclynn are among the great supporting cast of eccentric village folk.

BRIDGE OF LIES 4.30PM, BBC1 ★★★

BBC daytime viewers are in for a treat this week with the return of old favourites The Repair Shop (3.45pm) and Pointless (5.15pm), plus the start of this new quiz show hosted by former Eastenders hardman Ross Kemp. There’s more quizzing over on BBC2 as Lightning returns for a new, second series (6.30pm).

FAME IN THE FAMILY 5.30PM, CH4 ★★★

In this twist on Come Dine With Me, one celebrity hosts a dinner party for four guests they’ve never met. The twist is that, unbeknown to them, one of the diners is related to the famous face, and whoever works out the right relation wins a share of £1,000. Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood is first up.

TOM DALEY’S HELL OF A HOMECOMING 9PM, BBC1 ★★★★

To raise money for this Friday’s Comic Relief, the Olympic diving champion and celebrity knitter Tom Daley takes on an epic endurance challenge as he rows, cycles, swims and runs his way from the Olympic Park in Stratford to his home town of Plymouth. This film follows his progress.
