The cult horror novelist H.P. Lovecraft didn’t like women or foreigners, and was anti-semitic – yet, in 1924, he married a Jewish Ukrainian called Sonia Greene. The marriage was short and strange, with the couple spending much of their time miles apart. This drama documentary focuses on their marriage, but also reveals a dark family secret that had a profound effect on Lovecraft’s work.

Sue Perkins has followed in the footsteps of the impeccably polite Nicholas Parsons by keeping the tone cheerful and encouraging for this long-running comedy panel show. This evening, she will be asking nicely for Lucy Porter, Shaparak Khorsandi,

Julian Clary and Paul Merton to speak for 60 seconds on any given subject without hesitation, deviation or repetition.

The plan was, as far as the Conservatives were concerned, that we would by now be living in a low-tax, light-touch economy. Covid and Russian aggression blew a hole in that scheme and, next month, an increase in tax and National Insurance will blow a hole in our wallets.
