THE SMUGGLERS’ TRAIL 11AM, RADIO 4

★★★★

In 2021, 30 people piled into a dinghy in a doomed attempt to reach England from France. The dinghy deflated as they crossed the Channel. One passenger is still missing, two survived, and the remaining 27 are dead. Former soldier Rob Lawrie and radio producer Sue Mitchell hear how relatives of the deceased have sworn revenge on the smugglers who killed their loved ones.

ANKLE TAG 11.30AM, RADIO 4 ★★★★

Elis James and Katy Wix star as Gruff and Alice in this likeable three-part sitcom about a very decent young couple who are new parents and who always aim to do the right thing. They are often foiled in this noble endeavour by

Gruff’s dad, Bob (Steve Speirs), who is a convicted fraudster. In this episode, Gruff tries to find an ethical plumber for their leaking bath, but Bob knows someone dodgy who will do it for vouchers.

THE CLASSIC FM CONCERT 8PM, CLASSIC FM ★★★

Trevor Mcdonald ends his weeklong stint hosting John Suchet’s regular show with a selection of music that includes one of his favourite recordings. It’s that tender, heart-touching rendition of Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto made by Jacqueline du Pre, in her prime, before all the sorrows that were to afflict her had manifested.

LATE JUNCTION 11PM, RADIO 3

★★★★

There will be bawdy blues from Japanese musician Kan Mikami, feral folk – inspired by an unruly school trip to Featherstone Castle in Northumberland – from Geordie troubadour Richard Dawson and some naughty ballads from the North Carolina mountains in this entertaining selection of songs from around the world on the theme of sinful deeds and bad behaviour.
