MOVIE APOLLO 10 ½: A SPACE AGE CHILDHOOD (2022) 12

MOVIE THE BUBBLE (2022) 15

◆ ★★★★

Judd Apatow’s comedy is a suitably mad release for April Fool’s Day – it’s about a bunch of actors who steadily lose their minds trying to film a blockbuster under lockdown in England. Pedro Pascal, Karen Gillan, Leslie Mann (above) and David Duchovny play some of the cast reeling from endless green screens and Covid restrictions in a movie satire that’s very much for our time. From Friday.

PRIME VIDEO NEW! HACKS (Season 1)

★★★★ Great roles for older actresses don’t come along too often, and Jean Smart grabbed the lead in this acerbic US comedy with both hands. Smart’s husband actually died during filming, but she kept going in the role of Deborah Vance, a veteran Las Vegas comedian in need of a young person’s perspective to freshen up her act. A second season has been ordered. From Friday.

NEW! LUXE LISTINGS SYDNEY

(Season 2) ★★★ What’s bigger in this returning property show, the egos of the Australian estate agents or the size of the luxurious homes they sell? It’s up for debate, but both provide a lot of entertainment. From Friday.

CONTEST WORLD’S TOUGHEST RACE

(Season 1) ★★★

Bear Grylls hosts a daunting challenge in which 330 contenders try to cross 417 miles under their own steam – and to keep going for 11 days straight.

MOVIE JOE BELL (2020) 12

◆ ★★★ Hearing Mark Wahlberg singing Lady Gaga is a standout moment in this emotional, based-on-truth father-son drama about a dad (Wahlberg) who stands up for the rights of his bullied gay son. From Friday.

DISNEY+ NEW! MOON KNIGHT (Part 1) ★★★★

This dark and different Marvel show opens in London, with Star Wars’ Oscar Isaac as a split-personality mercenary. It has the feel of a psychological thriller, layered with that Marvel wit. Weekly, from Wednesday.

MOVIE DEATH ON THE NILE

(2022) 12 ◆ ★★★ Kenneth

Branagh’s Poirot (right) returns, complete with giant moustache, for a star-studded Egyptian mystery that pushes fun and glamour over the intricacies of the whodunnit. It’s not long out of cinemas. From Wednesday.

SKY / NOW DRAMA

INSTINCT (All 24 episodes) ★★★ This US detective drama has some decent mysteries, and stars a flamboyantly entertaining Alan Cumming as a gay CIA agent turned consultant for the NYPD.

COMEDY PEACEMAKER (Season 1) ★★★★ James Gunn’s superhero spin-off series from The Suicide Squad (Sky/now) is a lot of fun if you can stomach the violence and swearing. John Cena brings a boylike quality to prejudiced assassin Peacemaker, who is on a learning journey of sorts in this rambunctious show.

BEST OF THE REST NEW! SLOW HORSES (Apple TV+)

★★★★ ‘Team’ is a generous word for the assembly of MI5’S unwanted in this downto-earth spy series based on Mick Herron’s books. The top cast includes Gary Oldman and Kristin Scott Thomas, and the wry style is a welcome change of pace. Weekly, from Friday.

MOVIE DRIVE MY CAR (Mubi)

(2021) 15 ◆ ★★★★★ Subtle and stunningly deep Japanese drama that dissects a complex marriage. This Oscar nominee earns every minute of its three hours. From Friday.

PAY MOVIES

FORTRESS (2021) 15 ◆ (Sky Store, Virgin) ★★ Bruce Willis seems to be on a mission to make more middling action films than anybody else. He adopts a very low voice for this one, in which his retired CIA agent picks off baddies in the woods.

LAMB (2021) 15 ◆ (Sky Store, Virgin) ★★★ The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’s Noomi Rapace stars in this otherworldly Icelandic drama about a childless couple who take a lamb into their house – and things are great, even happy, for a while… Both from Monday.
