THE REPAIR SHOP

8PM, BBC1 ★★★★★

This week, the team repair a microscope that once belonged to pioneering scientist John D. Bernal and is now in the hands of his science-mad eight-year-old greatgrandson Felix, who is keen to use it once again. Elsewhere in the barn, there are restoration jobs on a pair of well-worn boots that accompanied a captured soldier during the Second World War, and an abstract sculpture that links a mother and daughter. Will Kirk (above), meanwhile, is trying to repair a swinging bench that has been in the same family for over 120 years.

RACE ACROSS THE WORLD 9PM, BBC1

★★★★

After last week’s surprise eviction, the remaining pairs must navigate to the fourth checkpoint, the remote outpost of Churchill, where polar bears (below) can outnumber people. Maybe that bear spray will come in handy after all! At the edge of the Arctic, Churchill is not connected to the rest of Canada by road, but by a twiceweekly train, and the teams have just three days to catch it. With the clock ticking, who will reach that allimportant checkpoint first and be one step closer to the finish line and the £20,000 cash prize?

SAVING LIVES IN LEEDS 9PM, BBC2

No matter how many times you see it on television – and it is, admittedly, becoming more frequent these days – the sight of a

surgeon performing brain surgery on a patient while they are still wide awake never ceases to amaze. This time, it’s neurosurgeon Ryan Mathew, who is removing a growing tumour. Over in the cardiac department, consultant Betsy Evans is operating on a patient who needs a critical double heart bypass. Their skill takes your breath away.

THE BAY 9PM, ITV1 ★★★

It’s the final episode of this solid Morecambe-set crime drama and after last week’s shocking attack, a furious Jenn (Marsha Thomason) is determined to find out who targeted her family. But first, she has to solve the arson case, and when she discovers a surprising connection between a prominent local family and

another item of evidence, the missing pieces of the investigation finally fall into place. Elsewhere, DI Manning (Daniel Ryan) is considering his future – will he follow his heart or stay loyal to the job?

THE KIDNAP & MURDER OF LYNDA SPENCE 9PM, CH5

★★★

On 14 April 2011, Lynda Spence, a seemingly ordinary 27-year-old financial adviser, disappeared from her home town of Glasgow and has never been seen since. But during the investigation, police began to discover that Lynda was a woman with multiple identities, links to suspected Albanian gangsters, and a property fraud that stretched from Glasgow to London. This astonishing true-crime documentary reopens the case and looks at how police were able to prove that Lynda had been murdered, although her body has never been found. When the case reached the court, it became one of the longest and most bizarre murder trials Scotland had ever known.
