PAINTING BIRDS WITH JIM AND NANCY MOIR
★★★★ You might know him best as Vic Reeves, but Jim Moir is a man with many strings to his bow. As well as mucking about with comedy partner Bob Mortimer on TV and topping the pop charts with The Wonder Stuff in 1991, Jim is also a prolific artist (above) – and an enthusiastic twitcher. For this new series, he and his wife Nancy have persuaded Sky to pay for them to tour the country to draw birds and have a grand old time, meeting local artists and bird watchers in each destination, as well as catching up with a few famous friends. Their first stop is in Northumberland, where they are on the look out for curlew and hang out with actor Mark Benton wearing interesting hats.
RACE ACROSS THE WORLD
9PM, bbc1 ★★★★
The cross-canada adventure reaches the halfway point and the remaining teams are hitting their strides – even if the transport challenges aren’t getting any easier. Who will finish this leg – from the edge of the Arctic to the Great Lakes and the checkpoint on Manitoulin
Island, in Lake Huron – in the lead, and who will be falling behind?
THE TRIALS OF HEATHER MILLS
9PM, CH5 ★★★ Heather Mills (right), the model who married Beatle Paul Mccartney, was hailed a hero for her charity work for fellow amputees after she lost part of her leg in a road accident. But almost as quickly as she was built up, Heather was torn down in a vicious and relentless trial by media. Playing out through the 1990s and 2000s, the highs and lows of Heather’s story are laid bare in this documentary. Did she really deserve the
MANHUNT: THE RAOUL MOAT STORY
★★★ You’ve seen the drama, now watch the real Raoul Moat (left) in CCTV footage as he tries to evade capture after going on a murderous rampage around his neighbourhood. Nicky Campbell narrates this eye-popping, blowby-blow account of his shocking crimes and the ensuing manhunt across Northumberland, which also includes audio of phone calls Moat made to police that are clear evidence of his frustration and paranoia. A known thug, Moat was convinced that local police were harassing him; that, coupled with events in his personal life, meant he was a powder keg set to explode. With contributions from police, local residents and neighbours of Moat, this helps to ram home what a dangerous, delusional brute Moat really was. outpouring of hate directed at her from the press? One paper took to referring to her as ‘Mucca’, a play on the affectionate nickname ‘Macca’ that her ex-husband was known by.
NAKED ATTRACTION
10.15PM, CH4 ★★★ Who thought this would catch on – a dating show that jumps straight to the naked bit without so much as a first date? The pickers choose the person they want to meet on bodies alone. Incredibly, this is series 11, with returning host Anna Richardson presiding over more hair-raising reveals and unusual matchmaking that aims to be as body positive and inclusive at it gets. After an initial furore and flurry of complaints when the show first aired in 2016, it doesn’t get much of a rise out of people any more.
