DOCUMENTARY
played by English Harry Potter star Tom Felton, who’s definitely found his niche. Series two follows the aftermath of a school bus massacre, while the third and final series opens with the murder of a professional footballer.
NEW LAW HITS BACK
AT EVIL ABUSERS
Sammy Woodhouse (above) has turned being abused as a young girl into a career as a campaigner, and here fronts an eye-opening documentary to raise awareness of an important issue. Sammy was a victim of the Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal, and was 15 years old when she became pregnant by one of the ringleaders. A new law will treat children of rape as victims of crime in their own right – in the film Sammy meets some of the mums and children who have come to terms with the grim circumstances of their conception.
TRAGIC
LOVE
STORY
British director Joe
Wright takes on Ian Mcewan’s tragic tale – the story of a terrible mistake and the realisation, too late, that it needs to be put right.
SUPERB BRITISH DRAMA
In her first major film role, Saoirse Ronan plays Briony Tallis, who as a precocious youngster from a well-to-do family makes a single tragic error that reshapes her life, and those of her sister Cecilia (Keira Knightley, right) and Robbie (James Mcavoy), the son of their housekeeper. Wright’s clever adaptation is impeccably mounted.
Yet the film is about so much more than the British obsession with class and the past, not only exploring the concepts of truth, guilt and forgiveness, but also playing around with the audience’s perception of the screen romance itself, especially with its jawdropping sequence at Dunkirk, 1940.
