STAR RATINGS ★★★★★ Brilliant ★★★★ Very good

A COUNTRY LIFE FOR HALF THE PRICE

★★★

Kate Humble is back for a new series of revisits, catching up with families who swapped cramped and pricey for spacious and thrifty. Revisits such as this are better than bog-standard repeats; it’s always interesting to see what progress has been made – or not! Tonight’s first of eight episodes comes from Shropshire, where Kate hangs out with the Goldbys: mum Vicki, dad Phil and their nine children (above). So, are they living the good life, with Phil holding down the day job while the children are home-schooled and their smallholding needs attention? It doesn’t sound like there’s much free time.

THE CLEANER

★★★ Wicky is in Wales for the final, eventful episode of this second series of the gallows humour comedy. While cleaning up after an especially grisly death, Wicky talks with undertaker Richard (Mark Lewis Jones), who makes him ponder his own mortality. Meanwhile, a pair of serial killers are stalking the woods – and they are rather taken with Wicky’s ‘massive’ head. Could it be curtains for the crime scene cleaner?

(2015) 12

10.40PM, BBC1 ★★★★ Outer space can be as lonely as it is awe-inspiring, and what Ridley Scott’s blockbuster brings to the lost-in-space table is stoicism and back-to-basics grit – there’s no pondering the meaning of existence, Stanley Kubrick-style. Matt Damon stars as mission botanist Mark Watney, who is left, believed dead, on the Red

Planet. Though his rescue ★★★ Good the childhood friends whose lives ebb and flow in joy and in sorrow – and some very colourful outfits.

THE MARTIAN

★★ Average ★ Rubbish

THAT’S THE WAY A-HA, A-HA, JOE LYCETT

11.05PM, CH4 ★★★

Joe (left) seems to be singlehandedly propping up Ch4 – taking over as the Travel Man, hosting his chat show Late Night Lycett (at 10pm) and being a camp crusader in his consumer series Got Your Back. This is his awardwinning stand-up show, recorded live at the Duchess Theatre in London. Expect a mix of passionate observations and absurd verbal fisticuffs from a comic who’s not afraid to call out the big, the bad and the ugly. is not a certainty, teams of boffins set to it back on Earth, while Watney does what he must to survive.

FANTASY ISLAND

(2020) 15

12.10AM, CH4 ★★★

This grisly horror reimagines the quirky US series from the 1970s and 1980s

(an unrelated sequel to which started on

Sky Max on Tuesday). On a tropical island, guests’ fantasies come true, but all come with a terrible cost. With its strict moral payback, this is a modern twist on Tales Of The Unexpected. Maggie Q

(left) stars.
