LAST LIGHT
How far would you go to protect the ones you love? That’s the question at the heart of actionpacked thriller Last Light, coming to Amazon Prime Video this week.
Based on a bestselling novel by Alex Scarrow, it’s the story of a family whose lives are changed forever when oil supplies are contaminated through biological terrorism, and global disaster looms. The five-episode series spans continents – filming locations included Prague, Paris and Abu Dhabi – and gives us an exciting pairing in the two leads.
Joanne Froggatt has come a long way since her big break as Zoe Tattersall, a teenage mum who sold her baby in Coronation Street. Lead roles in TV dramas followed, and an awardwinning film debut as a soldier with PTSD. But it was playing lady’s maid Anna in Downton Abbey that made her a Golden Globe-winning worldwide star.
Matthew Fox made his name in US family drama Party Of Five, then the role of troubled surgeon Jack Shephard in epic drama Lost took his fame to a new level. When Lost ended, Fox claimed he was ‘done with television’, and had
taken a seven-year break from showbusiness when Last Light lured him back.
‘I was drawn to the notion of this family,’ he says. ‘I wanted this family to survive and be reunited. But we have a backdrop of this world where it’s clear our reliance on fossil fuels has got to change.’
His character Andy Yeats, a petrochemical expert, is haunted by the scenario of a world without oil. And when it seems his worst nightmare is coming true, Andy can’t protect his family. He’s in the Middle East, while environmental activist daughter Laura is home alone in London and wife Elena (Froggatt) has taken son Sam to Paris for an eye operation.
