MEDIUM supernatural Drama

-

Bolting together a mystery-ofthe-week police procedural show and a supernatural thriller isn’t easy, but Medium managed it for seven entertaining series. Patricia Arquette (above left) stars as Allison Dubois, a medium whose sometimes obscure visions hold the key to solving the most difficult of cases. It takes a while to convince everyone, but slowly the officers of the police department in Phoenix, Arizona, reluctantly come to accept her help. There’s a lot here for fans of shows like The Mentalist and Ghost Whisperer to enjoy, but Medium also has its own unique off-kilter flavour, feeling as much like a family drama as it does a mystery show. CAMPION Dapper Detective

Albert Campion may seem like a stereotypical posh toff, but behind his tweedy jackets and owlish spectacles lurk the heart and mind of an adventurer. Campion craves danger, swapping his more genteel pastimes for the life of a private detective, and he’s portrayed by Peter Davison (above) in two series of adaptations of the mystery novels of Margery Allingham.

Set in 1930s England, Campion was a hit for Davison in his post-doctor Who years. Aided by his manservant, a gruff former burglar by the incredible name of Magersfontein Lugg (Brian Glover), the gentleman sleuth tracks down murderers and thieves, without once losing his elegant aristocratic cool. She’s overlooked by her community and unable to connect with her son, but is she looking for a purpose, or does she know more about the child’s disappearance than she’s prepared to admit? Line Of Duty’s Craig Parkinson co-stars. My5
