PET SHOP BOYS AT THE BBC 7.35PM, BBC2

★★★★

English synth duo the Pet Shop Boys (consisting of vocalist Neil Tennant and keyboardist Chris Lowe) are pioneers of pop. The BBC celebrates them by selecting some of their best performances from the archives. Next, tune in to Reel Stories:

Pet Shop Boys (9.05pm), where Dermot O’leary invites the pair to relive some of their career highs, before a repeat of Pet Shop Boys: Live In Hyde Park at 10.35pm.

CASUALTY 8.25PM, BBC1 ★★★

Rida and Jodie plan a fun girls night out, but things go horribly wrong. With Rida delayed at Holby City, Faith heads out alone to the nightclub, where a predatory man is waiting to pick up vulnerable women. Meanwhile, Cam and Ryan struggle to be taken seriously in the emergency department, especially by Max, and Faith suffers a setback.

ANNIKA 9.15PM, BBC1 ★★★★

Unforgotten’s Nicola Walker (right) first played Scandinavian detective Annika Strandhed on Radio 4 in 2013, but this TV series (which first aired on

Alibi in 2021) moves Annika from Oslo to Scotland, where she’s put in charge of the new Maritime Homicide Unit. Offbeat DI Strandhed is a sharp detective but an absent-minded manager – one minute she’s composing a limerick about her strained relationship with her daughter, the next cutting to the heart of a case with deadly accuracy. It’s this mix that makes the series so compelling. Tonight, watch Annika tackling her first day on the job, investigating the murder of a man found in the Clyde.

LATER… WITH JOOLS HOLLAND 9.50PM, BBC2 ★★★★

Jools returns for the 62nd series of his hit show, which showcases a selection of the best musicians around as they perform live at north London’s Alexandra Palace Theatre. Tonight, Irish singer-songwriter Hozier (of Take Me To Church fame) and 2021 Mercury Prize winner Arlo Parks provide the headline performances. While Jools also welcomes some fresh talent such as soulful trio Thee Sacred Souls and Venbee, one of the female artists leading the drum and bass resurgence.
