NIGELLA’S AMSTERDAM CHRISTMAS
★★★★ If you’ve ever been to the Dutch capital at Christmas you’ll know what a magical place it can be during the holidays, and here Nigella Lawson (right) is our guide to all the best Amsterdam has to offer. It’s a very personal journey – one she’s made many times before – and she’ll be bringing the ingredients she finds there back to London to show us how to prepare mussels, an Indonesian biryani, a no-bake Advocaat and ginger cake and iced biscuits. And it wouldn’t be a Christmas special without a very special cocktail…
THE REAL VANISHING ACT – MISSING MILLIONAIRESS
9PM, ITV1 ★★★★ Following on from the three-part drama (Monday-wednesday, 9pm, ITV1), this companion documentary charts the story behind the disappearance of financial adviser Melissa Caddick, who vanished from her Sydney home in November 2020, and was declared dead earlier this year following the discovery of partial remains in 2021. This programme has access to the inquest, where the deputy state coroner was unable to state how, when or where Melissa died, and hears testimony from people closest to the case. It also explores the aftermath of her disappearance, as the numerous investors whose money she misappropriated
– to the tune of more than £10 million – faced financial ruin, and Melissa’s husband and son faced life without her.
ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL: CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
9PM, CH5 ★★★ Helen (Rachel Shenton) is now heavily pregnant, and James (Nicholas Ralph) wants to be with her, but he’s miles away from Darrowby at the RAF training base. An emotional phone call from his wife leaves him determined to be with her at Christmas, but on the base, someone needs his help. What to do? Back home, Mrs
Hall is preparing a community celebration, but Carmody (James Anthony-rose) and Siegfried (Samuel West) clash over who gets to play Father Christmas. Surely, that should be Siegfried, as Carmody has only been there five minutes? The new vet is settling in well, though, and finds himself enjoying the season – and James finds himself learning an important lesson.
