PICK OF THE DAY
JAMIE’S AIR FRYER MEALS
8PM, CH4 ★★★
The air fryer TV takeover continues and now, former Naked Chef Jamie Oliver is getting in on the act, no longer cooking with gas, but with air. Jamie brings his flair for big flavours combined with everyday simplicity to recipes that include a roast chicken curry with plenty of sides, savoury scones and peach Alaska for dessert. If you’re one of the 45 per cent of households with an air fryer on your countertop, don’t miss Ch5’s Shop Smart, Save Money on Wednesday (7pm) for more top chef air fryer tips.
SPRINGTIME ON THE FARM 8PM, CH5
★★★★
A joyful weekday run for the returning series that heralds the arrival of warmer weather (after an especially long and grey winter) and lots and lots of lambs and other baby animals. The ‘maternity ward’ at Cannon Hall Farm is gearing up for the season, but Rob (below) and Dave Nicholson are also ready to receive a host of special guests (baby tigers and rhinos, would you believe). Helen Skelton, Jules Hudson and J.B. Gill round out the team putting the spring back in our steps.
POMPEII: THE NEW DIG 9PM, BBC2
This three-part documentary unveils exciting new evidence at the site of the volcanic eruption that entombed Pompeii in 79 AD. One third of the site has remained unexcavated – until now. There is a global team of experts on hand to decode the finds and describe the minutiae of life in Pompeii in the moments before the catastrophe, including British volcanologist Chris Jackson, who has an especially poetic way of describing the devastation. Frozen in time are painters at work, and we see examples of volcanised bread, plus the skeletal remains of two people whose final moments are pieced together by physical anthropologist Dr Valeria Amoretti.
