MATCH OF THE DAY LIVE: WOMEN’S FA CUP FINAL 1.50PM, BBC1

★★★★

Tickets for this sporting showpiece have sold out (last year, a record 77,390 fans turned out to watch Chelsea win), but don’t panic – the Beeb’s football pundits are bringing us all the action from Wembley Stadium. Manchester United were runners-up in 2023, so the squad will be hoping to go all the way and lift the trophy today, while surprise contenders Tottenham Hotspur have never made it this far in the competition, so they have nothing to lose. It promises to be a thrilling affair. Kick-off is at 2.30pm.

THE RESPONDER 9PM, BBC1

★★★★★

Struggling cop Chris (Martin Freeman) may have been trying to turn his life around – with therapy, self-help books and by being a good dad – but by the end of the first episode of this second series, he’s already landed himself in deep water by making an enemy out of international drug dealer Franny (Adam Nagaitis). In this unmissable second episode, Jodie (Faye Mckeever) asks Chris for a big favour, and Rachel (Adelayo Adedayo) is on his case, too.

ROB AND RYLAN’S GRAND TOUR 9PM, BBC2

★★★ Rylan Clark and Rob Rinder aren’t the obvious choices to front a series about the travels of Romantic poet Lord Byron, but in this three-parter, the duo set off on their very own Grand Tour, the cultural trip to Italy taken by 18th-century gentlemen. Don’t worry, it’s not all highbrow art and literature; Rylan moderates Rob’s love of opera and poetry with chat about fake tan. As well as seeing Venice’s most famous artworks, Rob and Rylan (above, with guide Adam) visit the islands of Murano and learn about the famous Venice carnival. The pair bond over Aperol spritz, getting personal and discussing their divorces before Rylan convinces a terrified Rob to don a dress and join a group of proud drag queens parading in the streets of the city. See feature, page 8.

THE PIANO 9PM, CH4 ★★★★

Host Claudia Winkleman and judges Mika and Lang Lang search for musical talent at Waverley Station in Edinburgh. First to sit on the piano stool is a bow-tie-wearing ten-year-old from Hong Kong, whose fingerwork really impresses his hero, Lang Lang. Next, a postman called Michael tickles the ivories, before we meet a woman who busks with a piano across different cities in Europe. Other hopefuls include a former Miss Scotland, and a woman from Ukraine who learned how to play the instrument on a piece of paper. ‘The standard is very high today,’ says Lang Lang. Who will get the chance to play at the concert in Manchester?

THE LOST SCROLLS OF POMPEII: NEW REVELATION 9PM, CH5

★★★ We’re all familiar with the mosaics, statues and skeletons preserved during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, but the library of scrolls discovered at the archaeological site of Herculaneum (just a few miles away from Pompeii) is less well-known, mainly because no one has been able to read them – until now. Professor Alice Roberts joins a computer scientist in Italy who is using cutting-edge technology to read the text and recover its hidden wisdom, without opening the scrolls themselves. But what do they say? This is a must-see for history buffs.
