Cameron’s a voodoo child

-

I JUST knew it! Cameron Diaz already admitted to me that she’s a witch, albeit a good one. Now, she tells me that she put a voodoo hex on her friend and movie co-star, Toni Collette. Cameron wanted Toni to accompany her on a world tour to promote their film In Her Shoes, which opens here today

‘ but I was supposed to do another picture, so I said no,’ Toni told me at the Dorchester. Cameron confessed:‘ I put a voodoo on her and the film she was supposed to do and, anyway, it was put back several months and they’re filming it in London next year.’ Which is even better news for the two actresses, because now Cameron will be in town, shooting Holiday with Kate Winslet, at the same time that Toni is filming You Can’t Come In.‘It’s a psychological thriller-cum-horror picture and I play a woman who has lost her faith and so on,’ Toni explained. ‘ So, it’s a comedy, right?’ Cameron joked. It’s clear the two of them have had a ball criss-crossing the world, especially the bit where they get sent frocks, coats and shoes. They admit they’ve had to mail the odd garment box home rather than lug it around with them. For me, In Her Shoes works. I guess I like watching siblings fall out and then become friendly again — and I do have a soft spot for Shirley MacLaine, who plays the girls’grandmother. Director Curtis Hanson has done a cool job getting in touch with his inner feminine side, particularly when you consider this is the guy who made the testosterone-charged LA Confidential.
