In a mes­sage on her in­ter­net do­na­tion page, St Mary’s Shaftes­bury old girl Eleanor, 26, has penned a mov­ing trib­ute to the good cause.

‘Dur­ing nu­mer­ous trips to Selly Oak Hos­pi­tal and Headley Court [a rehabilitation cen­tre],’ she writes, ‘I have been faced with the shock­ing re­al­ity of just how many ser­vice men and women — many of them in their teens and 20s — have been left with life-al­ter­ing wounds in the ser­vice of their coun­try, and of their in­cred­i­ble for­ti­tude and courage in fac­ing the chal­lenge of life post-in­jury.’
