... and here are just some of the errors we’ve heard about over the past week

TAX DEDUCTED FROM ISA ...

CHRISTINE PAVETT, from West Wickham, Kent, had tax deducted from the interest on her Santander Direct Isa (Issue 3). Almost three months of phone calls and letters since March have failed to sort it out. Santander blames an administrative error. Since Money Mail intervened, the interest has been correctly paid and it has sent her £70 as a goodwill gesture.

INCORRECT INTEREST ...

MIRIAM FELDMAN from Leeds, W. Yorks., went into the Bradford branch in March to complain that she had the incorrect interest added to her cash Isa. The bank admitted it was wrong, but did nothing about it. Santander says Mrs Feldman’s Isa was not upgraded last year. It has backdated the interest with a £70 apology.

WRONG ACCOUNT ...

JOHN PHILLIPS, from Nottingham, had a fixed-rate Isa which matured on April 26. He acted early to transfer it to another fixed rate, but it ended up in Santander’s easy access account, paying 0.1 pc, for three weeks. Santander has now reinvested it into a new fixed-rate deal and backdated the interest. It sent him £30 as an apology, saying the branch should have arranged the transfer when originally asked.

MISSING MONEY ...

ALMA TUSTIN, from Llandudno, N. Wales, asked Santander to close her fixed-rate Isa when it matured on May 1 and send the money to her — but it did not turn up. She was none the wiser after chasing the bank. Santander finally closed her Isa on May 17 and sent the money along with £75 by way of an apology.

TRANSFER DELAYS ...

ANNAMMA GHOSH, from Glasgow, applied to transfer her Isa from Santander to Nationwide on March 28 after earning just £22.06 interest on her £17,205. Nationwide sent her three letters saying it had opened the account, but heard nothing from Santander. Santander claims it did not receive the transfer request from Nationwide until May 10. It apologised and sent her £50.
