HOUSEHOLDERS can save £50 on their first energy bill if they sign up to Sainsbury’s latest energy offer before t he end of June.

A typical household will pay £854 a year for gas and electricity with Sainsbury’s Online S@ver Version 6 tariff, according to Energyhelpline.

Previously, Npower’s Sign-on Line 18 plan was the cheapest at an average annual consumption of £876 for dual fuel.

You will have to pay the £50 discount back if you leave within the next 12 months.

Sainsbury’s energy is provided by EDF. The rate is not fixed but it does guarantee to stay 2 pc below EDF’s standard tariff until the end of June next year.

The offer is available only for dual fuel and electricity-only customers.

Mark Todd, of the Energyhelpline, says: ‘Those on their energy company’s standard tariffs are typically paying around £1,200 a year — £ 300 more than the cheapest online deals.’
