HOW do I contact Liberty Life Assurance? I am trying to trace a £3,000 investment my 89-year-old mother holds with the company.

D.H., by email. CONTACT Sun Life Financial of Canada, Barnett Way, Barnwood, Gloucester GL4 3RZ or phone 0845 605 2323. HOW quickly can I withdraw money from Premium Bonds?

S. P., by email. ALLOW around two weeks. To cash them in, you need to send a form to National Savings & Investments. It will issue your payment within eight working days of receiving it. The money will be paid directly into your bank or building society account, or you can ask for a warrant (like a cheque). MY husband died in 2000, leaving his estate to me. In 2002, my solicitor suggested I take out a deed of variation so that the assets he left me could be put into a loan trust. Does his inheritance tax allowance now revert to me since the changes in the rules?

S. G., Shepperton, Middx. I’M afraid not. In effect, all your husband’s IHT allowance was used when it was put into trust, so even though you have access to the trust, you can’t use his allowance again when you die, according to Sussex-based estate planner Spofforths.

This was the correct legal advice at the time, but the rules have now been relaxed to allow husbands and wives t o have access t o any unused portion on t he second death without needing to set up a trust. There is nothing you can do now to reverse the situation. I UNDERSTAND there is a new EU law coming in t hat will increase the compensation l i mit f or savers?

T. B., Croydon. THE l i mit f or savers is currently £50,000 per banking group. On December 31, a new Europe-wide scheme is due to be in place, and it is widely (£82,500) per customer per banking licence. WHERE can I find more i nformation on Lionhart Benevolent Fund?

J. G., Okehampton, Devon. THIS is the charity helping sick, disabled and unemployed members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
