GM in 1.5m recall

Daily Mail - - City & Finance -

GENERAL Motors, owner of Vauxhall, is recalling 1.5m vehicles due to fears a component that heats the windscreen washing fluid could catch fire.

Most of the cases affect Chevrolet, Cadillac and Hummer brands sold in America in 2006-2009. But one in ten involves cars sold in foreign markets, notably Canada and Mexico. Customers will receive $100 for the removal of the component, GM said.

Toyota recalled 9m cars in 2009 and 2010, following incidents in which accelerator pedals became stuck. This recall is much smaller but may hurt GM, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January 2009, far more.
