A fitting farewell for darts legend Wilson

-

HUNDREDS of mourners gathered to pay their last respects to two-time world champion darts player Jocky Wilson at his funeral yesterday.

Family and friends were joined by figures from the world of darts to bid a final farewell to Wilson, who passed away at his home in Kirkcaldy, Fife, 10 days ago, two days after his 62nd birthday.

Around 400 people, including the five-time world champion Eric Bristow, packed Kirkcaldy Crematorium to hear about a ‘wonderful and loving’ dad whose most important role in life had been to provide for his family.

He leaves behind his wife Malvina and their three children, Anne Marie, John and William, as well as six grandchildren. Wilson would have celebrated his 44th wedding anniversary next month. AUSTRALIA seamer Mitchell Johnson will play Twenty20 cricket for Durham this summer. The club have confirmed the fast bowler has joined them as their second overseas player for the Friends Life t20, which takes place in June and July. The 30-year-old, who won the ICC Cricketer of the Year award in 2009, has played 47 Tests, 107 one-day and 28 Twenty20 internationals for Australia. MICHAELA TABB will take charge of the Betfred.com World Championship snooker final for the second time next month. Scotland’s Tabb, 44, the game’s top female official, will referee the final at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield on May 6-7.

Tabb, a professional snooker referee since 2001, officiated the world final for the first time in 2009 when John Higgins beat Shaun Murphy 18-9. ‘I was elated when I found out I was doing it again,’ she said.
