How to earn £200 simply by shopping

-

CAREFUL shoppers can grab a new credit card that pays back 5p for every £1 spent. It is part of a new range of cards from capital One, called Aspire.

The 5 pc rate matches the best cashback reward available to those who settle their balance in full every month. American Express offers a similar deal, but charges £25 a year for its Platinum card.

There is no annual fee for capital One’s new Aspire World card. cashback is capped at 5 pc on spending up to £2,000 for the first three months — equal to £100 in your pocket.

Once you hit that mark — or after the three months are up — the cashback rate reverts to a sliding scale, paying between 0.5 pc and 1.25 pc depending on the balance on the card.

And those with incomes of £50,000 or more qualify for capital One’s premium card, the Aspire Elite, which pays 5 pc cashback, capped at £200 for three months — equal to spending £4,000.

This premium card has a £120 annual fee — and you must still be a customer next January because the cashback is not paid until then.

There are other perks, including a 24hour concierge service that customers can use to book flights, hotels and event tickets.

On both capital One cards, borrowers need to repay their debts on time every month or pay 19.9 pc interest.

Other cashback cards include Santander’s ‘123’ card, which pays 3 pc on petrol, 2 pc for department store purchases and 1 pc on supermarket spending. It has a £24 annual fee.
