Last night saw the first innovative light show on the EDF Energy London Eye inspired by the millions of tweets from around the UK about London 2012.

As the official electricity supplier to London 2012, EDF Energy is measuring the ‘energy of the nation’ by tracking the nation’s tweets about the Olympic Games and Paralympics Games - the highs, lows, triumphs and despairs - and turning them into a lightshow every night at 9pm on the EDF Energy London Eye.

EDF Energy, the UK’s largest producer of nuclear-backed low carbon electricity, has joined forces with a team of world-leading experts in sentiment analysis to stage the world’s first social media-driven lightshow.

The US-based scientists have developed a cutting edge computer programme that analyses the language used in all UK-based tweets relating to the Olympic Games and Paralympics Games.

These are then automatically categorised as being positive, negative or neutral in tone and produce a daily national snapshot of how positive the UK is about the Games. This will be reflected In the lightshow every night.

the Games

The lightshows - including the launch last night by former Olympic gold-winning decathlete Daley Thompson - will all be streamed live on www.edfenergyofthenation.com, allowing people across the country to join in and see the nation’s collective tweets in lights.
