Lady Astor and a naked encounter
THERE T have been more unusual adventures concerning unlikely pin-up p Lady Astor of Hever, who found herself catapulted to latelife modelling stardom after a she was headhunted by a casting agent while shopping.
Now the face of Dove beauty b products, Liz Astor, whose Tory defence minister husband Johnnie is the 3rd Baron Astor of Hever, has just come back from a cycling holiday with a girlfriend in time t for the launch of her h first novel, Since You Y Went Away.
But her cycling holidays with her pal are never without excitement. e ‘On one occasion, we spotted a bespectacled, greyhaired man in a car in a village in Puglia in Italy and he got out and said, “Helloooo,” to us in a rather amusing way,’ she recalls. ‘But it was only after we had cycled past that we realised he was completely naked — although with no flag flying.’
Liz, 62, who worked as a teacher and PR before her modelling career unexpectedly started again last year — she briefly modelled in the late Sixties — has previously written a memoir, Loving Olivia, about her autistic daughter.
Her new book includes a figure based on her mother who died after a battle with Parkinson’s disease and breast cancer. ‘But I hope it isn’t depressing — there is a lot of black comedy in it based on real things that happened with my mother,’ she tells me.
